In motivating stage, to introduce things. A teacher sometimes shows a l ot of pictures and realias. It is good anyway to enrich students’ vocabulary and knowledge. In addition to this technique, there is another way to boost students’ critical thinking by applying what we call Bloom Taxonomy. For example, to boost students’ critical thinking on certain gadgets, i.e. mobile phones, the teacher only needs a picture and shows it to students by applying the following questions:
1. What is it – memorizing
2. What do you know about the gadget? – understanding
3. If you wanted to upgrade your mobile phone, would you buy it or prefer the others? Why? – applying.
4. How does this mobile phone differ from the others? What are the competitive advantages? – analyzing
5. What are the advantages and disadvantages of having this mobile phone? – evaluating
6. If you were the marketers, how would you convince your potential customers? Explain. – creating
