PRICE SAVVY GAME

by Aprian Adirahman

Warm up stage.
I always try to use a simple way to lead the students to the topic of the lesson. The guessing game is one of the most effective ways to do.Teaching CV 2 classes for several times makes me convenient to use this technique to teach lesson 5 about asking for and give prices and amounts. Simple but Joyful .
Steps:
1.        Bring in to the class the latest leaflets/brochures of different items that attract the students. I suggest you not to use to many leaflets/ brochures.( not more than 5 )
Example: i Pod,Samsung Galaxy Tablet, Honda Fit X, Samsung LED TV 32”, Blackberry  bold, etc.
2.       Provide sheets of paper for each  student to write the prices.
3.       Ask the students to guess the price of the items one by one by asking them to introduce the target expressions learned in the lesson. Write the target expressions on the board.
Example: What’s the price of........?         It’s.....................
How much does ........ cost?     It costs................
How much is .........?                    It is......................
Do we buy it or rent....?             We buy/ rent ..............
4.
5.       Ask the students the price of the first product.
Example: What’s  the price of I Pod?.(write on the board)
6.       Ask each student to write the price on a sheet of paper.
7.       Wait the response of the student.
8.       Ask student no 1 to answer the question by showing the price of the item being written on a sheet of paper facing their friends.
Example: What’s the price of I Pod?
9.       Write the response on the board.
Example : It’s Rp.........................
10.   Go the the rest of the students in the class.
11.   Write the closest  price of the item mentioned by the students on the board .
12.   Go the the rest of the items.
13.   Finally, You can tell a joke  that  the one getting the most closest price of the items is the one who loves go strolling at mall is a Price savvy person (The one who keeps abreast on the latest price of products).

AUCTION GAME
Skill Practice stage.
I also try to use a simple way to drill the students about the topic of the lesson. The auction game is one of the most effective ways to use.Teaching CV 2 classes for several times makes me convenient to use this technique to teach lesson 5 about asking for and give prices and amounts. Simple  and fun .
Steps:
1.        Bring in to the class the latest leaflets/brochures of different items that attract the students ( The ones that have been used previously in the warm aup stage).
Example: i Pod,Samsung Galaxy Tablet, Honda Fit X, Samsung LED TV 32”, Blackberry  bold, etc.
2.       Provide sheets of paper for each  student to write the prices.
3.       Tell the students that they  are the representatives of their boss to attend an auction. Their bosses gave  them  Rp 15.000.000,00 as their budget.Their bosses hope to get alot of money from the auction. They must get the cheapest price of the products to get alot of profit if the want to sell them in the market and you (the teacher) have got the exact price of the second  hand products in the market.(don’t show them the prices)
Example: I Pod  16 gbs                                                   Rp. 1.500.000,00
Samsung Galaxy Tablet 32 gbs              Rp. 2.200.000,00
                   Honda Fit X                                                     Rp.6.000.000,00
                   Etc...................
4.       Tell the students about the rules of the game.
The auction regulation:
-          Only the first ten buyers  have the right to buy each product.
-          The highest price wins the auction.
-          Don’t spend money more than your  budget.
Example: You have won some auctions and the total amount is Rp. 13.000.000,00.
You don’t have the right to join the next auction with the price more than
                   Rp.2.0000.000,00.
-          Don’t  withdraw the price you mentioned in the auction.
-          Write the price on a sheet of paper before  raising and saying the price outloud.
-          Readable handwriting of the prices on the sheet of paper.

5.       Start the auction by offering  the students to buy the first  item.
Example: What’s the price of I Pod?
6.       Let the students join the auction ( only the first ten buyer have the right to buy each item) .
7.       Write the highest price together with the name of the buyer on the board.
Example : I Pod                                                                                                  Rp. 1.200.000,00              (Paijo)
Samsung Galaxy tablet 32 gbs                              Rp. 2.000.000,00              (Suryan)
Honda Fit X                                                                     Rp. 5.600.000,00              (Suparman)
                   Etc.......
8.       Tell the students the exact price of the second hand items.
: I Pod   16 gbs                                                   Rp. 1.500.000,00
Samsung Galaxy Tablet 32 gbs              Rp. 2.200.000,00
                   Honda Fit X                                                     Rp.6.000.000,00
                   Etc...................

9.       Finally, Ask the student to calculate the profit they made during the auction.
Example: I Pod (second hand price in the market)           Rp. 1.500.000,00              (Paijo)
                                                                                                                Rp  .1.200.000,00
                                                                                                                Rp.      300.000.00 (profit)
                    Samsung Galaxy tablet 32 gbs
(second hand price in the market)           Rp. 2.000.000,00              (Suryan)
                                                                                                                Rp. 2.200.000,00
                                                                                                                Rp.     200.000,00 (profit)
Honda Fit X (second hand price in the market)               Rp. 6.000.000,00              (Suparman)
                                                                                                                Rp. 6.200.000,00
                                                                                                                Rp.    200.000,00 (lost)
                   Etc......
10.   So, the winner is Paijo and Finally, You can tell a joke  that  the one who gets the highest profit  has a good skill in bussiness and will be send to America to work in Broklyn tobe a drug dealer (wk..wk...wk).
