Struggle and Win

Ahmad Jamaludin is a student of one of favorite Islamic senior high school. He is only an ordinary boy with many activities in his school. He usually goes to school at seven o’clock in the morning and goes home at three o’clock in the evening, but don’t judge the book by the cover. In the outside, he is only the ordinary boy, but he lives in the orphanage and he is one of candidate for the Al-Azhar university scholarship. It’s unbelievable because he has many edges to reach his dream to study in university. The orphanage keeper always says that he can give Udin a middle education and he only studies in senior high school. Not only the edge of the money, Udin also has a lot of house keeping work to finish after school, and he only has two hours at night to study. That situation doesn’t make Udin give up and leave his growth to chance, he spend his play time for reading a book and his break time to study in the class, and the result is Udin is one of the student who is selected for the Al-Azhar scholarship candidate. For the Ann Lander definition about maturity, in Udin’s case, at least fulfill Ann Lander’s definition of maturity.

The first maturity that Udin has fulfilled is patience to pass up immediate pleasure in favor of the long term gain. We can see that Udin always spends the time to study even he wants to play with his friends. He is always patient and has a positive thinking to gain his dream to study in university. Many people always spend their time to do something useless; it means that they only want to reach their immediate need. If they do that it means they are not a mature one because they waste their time, compared to Udin’s case, Many people always waste their time, but they actually don`t know if they do that. It’s the reason why they call immature.
The second requirement of maturity that Udin fulfill is capability to face unpleasantness and disappointment without becoming bitter. Udin always has positive thinking in his mind, even many people say that he can’t reach his dream, but he always struggles and passes up his dream. Nowadays, many people complain about too hard to do this or finish that even they know they can do that. They never want to work hard for their own dream, compared to Udin’s case, they are immature because they always complain and complain different from Udin who always struggles by himself.


The last requirement maturity that Udin fulfill is the ability to control anger and settle differences without violations or destruction. We can see that the orphanage keeper always says that he can give Udin a middle education and he only study in senior high school, fortunately Udin is a never give up person and he always has positive thinking in his mind. He understands that the orphanage keeper can’t giving more for his education because of the situation and Udin never blame him. He understand the situation, so he find his own ways to reach his dream to study in university, and his ways are scholarship and it is more than his dreams. Sometimes, many people always angry with their own fault or when they failed in their mission. They never realized that they can’t accomplish their jobs because of their fault and as the result; they will blame someone or something. Comparised with Udin case, they are immature because they only blame someone or something and never reflect their self and find their own fault.

As the result, Udin can reach his dream and over his edge to reach his dream because he has a mature one and he knows what he must do and he can be responsible with his act. From the Udin case, we can compare with other people that many people sometimes don’t realize that they are immature because they don’t know what they must do and they can’t be responsible with their act. They also waste their time without realizing that they do it by themselves and always blame someone or something when they fail or make a mistake. From that comparison, we can choose which one we want to be mature and always know what we want to do and to be a responsible people who always struggle and become a winner or leave our life from chance and to be an immature people and never realize it.
