A Class with Hanneke,

Week 9 1st - 6th of March

Topic: Geographic

The first class, little bit nervous but more enthusiastic.

Even though I really liked to teach the classes, I had some struggles.

I had to find a way to make Geographic interesting, since in my opinion it isn’t that interesting. So I’ve tried to make the lesson interactive and visual.

Visual part worked out pretty well, but interactive part didn’t really work well, especially the first class wasn’t interactive at all. I didn’t give them enough time and not enough chance to speak out loud.

I changed my interactive games for the second class. As the result, they were more talkative. But still, I was talking way more than the students. I found it hard to make to students more talkative because of the subject. I couldn’t find any useful games.

The third class was really talkative I think, there were only 5 students. So it was more a cozy conversation instead of a lesson, it was still about Geographic though.

The fourth and fifth classes were ok. I knew the lesson like out of my head. Some of the students, the confident ones, were really talkative. But the quiet ones didn’t really take the chance to talk. So I’ve to find a way to make them talk as well.

Some students gave me feedback. It wasn’t interactive enough, as I expected. So I’m really going to work on that part! One more thing, they said I’ve been talking too fast. Some of the students asked me to slow down. I did it for five minutes, forgot about it and talked too fast again.

I’ve to practice to talk not that fast. I’ll think of these things in the following classes

Thanks, to all the students who gave me feedback and came to my class. Thanks, to all the teachers who helped me by preparing the lessons and gave me some feedback. Don’t be shy and tell me if you got problems with my way of talking, teaching or anything… I’m still learning!
